Research Project: Legume Information System and Network - a Legume Bioinformatics Resource

Location: Corn Insects and Crop Genetics Research

Project Number: 3625-21000-052-03
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 21, 2007
End Date: Jun 30, 2009

Objective:
Curate, develop, and serve visualization and analysis tools for a legume genomic database with emphasis on agronomically relevant genomic data.

Approach:
NCGR will continue to develop and serve LIS and work closely with ARS in planning and conducting research. NCGR will improve methods to import genetic and physical map data from other legume communities and develop visualization tools to compare map information; incorporate relevant data from NRI-funded Fabaceae Genome Projects; develop visualization methods to compare gene expression data among legumes; enhance BIOMOBY-type database connections with other legume databases, e.g., the Soybean Breeders Toolbox; test methods of high-throughput sequencing to generate agronomically relevant data, e.g., allergens and Asian Soybean Rust resistance; and work closely with technical and user oversight groups convened by USDA-ARS and potentially NSF, to insure that the project deliverables meet current and anticipated needs such as increased priorities of legume allergens and Asian Soybean Rust.
