Great Lakes Hydrology Outlooks
Probabilistic outlooks of Great Lakes hydrology, updated weekly.
Three NOAA agencies support estimates of present hydrology and long-term hydrological probabilities for each of the Great Lake Basins.
- NOAA's Great Lakes Environmental
Research Laboratory (GLERL) provides hydrological models, near real-time
meteorological data reduction procedures, and support for making the
outlooks. Through the
Coordinating Committee on Great Lakes Basic Hydraulic and Hydrologic
Data, GLERL collaborates with the Great
Lakes Information Network to provide a centralized location for
data and information about Great Lakes-St.
Lawrence Hydrology.
- NOAA's Climate Prediction
Center (CPC) produces climatic outlooks over several different periods
(6-10 day forecasts, 8-14 day forecasts, 1 month forecasts and 13 different
3 month forecasts). Each outlook set has both precipitation and air
temperature outlook probabilities.
- The Midwestern Climate Center
(MCC) gets climatic data from NOAA's
National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) and Environment Canada's
Canadian Meteorological Centre and prepares the data in a format
usable by the data reduction procedures and models from GLERL. These
data, plus others, are available on the
Midwestern Climate Information System (MICIS).
