Training Grant in Environmental Toxicology Utilizing biochemical, chemical and biological approaches, the training program emphasizes characterization of the effects of toxic, carcinogenic and mutagenic properties of agents at the intact animal, tissue, cellular and molecular levels. Methods are developed for the detection and quantification of such effects in humans, animals, and other experimental systems. Studies are conducted of metabolic activation, macromolecular binding and genetic effects of toxins and toxicants, and elucidation of modes of action at cellular and molecular levels. The program encompasses a number of approaches, including genetic, biochemical, pathological and analytic toxicology. The Ph.D. degree is offered primarily in Toxicology, although the program is also available to Bioengineering students. E-mail contact: jessig@mit.edu |
