As Appalachia enters the twenty-first century, it faces new challenges and opportunities posed by the rapidly emerging global marketplace. More than ever before, connecting the Region to the worldwide chain of suppliers and markets will be critical to the success of its businesses, communities, and people. The Appalachian Development Highway System (ADHS), now approximately 78 percent complete, and the Interstate Highway System provide a critical foundation for transportation in the Region. In addition, business and civic leaders are recognizing that the economic demands of the twenty-first century will present challenges that can best be met by developing and coordinating all of the Region's transportation resources—its railways, waterways, and air services, as well as its highways and access roads. This section will help you explore online resources for transportation. Questions on this topic?
