ITC Upholds Broadcom Claims, Issues Order Against SiRF
The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has issued an exclusion order against certain SiRF GPS chips and products containing those chips imported into the United States, as well as cease-and-desist orders against SiRF and four specific SiRF customers.

Trimble Cuts Guidance in Wake of Uncertainty
Trimble has lowered its fourth quarter (Q4) 2008 revenue considerably, citing market uncertainty in engineering and construction, forecasting that it will be in the range of $268 million to $269 million, with non-GAAP earnings per share of 22 cents to 24 cents.
Mitac Completes Magellan Purchase, Mio Shifts Direction
Taiwan's Mitac International Corp. has completed its purchase of the consumer product division of Magellan Navigation Inc., reiterating that it intends to maintain the brand in North America, along with its other brand, Mio, but it did suggest that Mio would undertake a new strategy.
EADS Astrium Acquiring Surrey Satellite Technology
The European Commission has approved Netherlands-based EADS Astrium's acquisition of the United Kingdom's Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. (SSTL), the University of Surrey spin-out company which specializes in the design and manufacture of small satellites and subsystems.

Expert Advice: From the Front Lines of Interoperability
For all the talk about and good will towards interoperability of GNSS systems, one might assume that such hands-across-v arious-waters agreements are nearly or tacitly accomplished. While this is not out of the question, neither can it be termed as within sight. Detailed discussions at the December 8?12 meeting of the International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (ICG) in Pasadena revealed how far we have to go. I attended the meeting and witnessed a few of the devils at work in these details.
