Abstract: (CIT): Dr. Nepom has contributed much to our general understanding of the structure and function of MHC class II molecules, and he has specifically focused on their link to autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes. His group has also designed MHC class II multimers, and used these as tools to study human autoreactive T cells. Such measurements of autoantigen-specific T cells are particularly important in the context of measuring specificity and efficacy of new immunomodulatory treatments for autoimmune diseases.
