Introduction
The Vector Biology Research Program at NIAID comprises research in all areas of vector biology, including, but not limited to, ecology, epidemiology, behavior, physiology, parasite/vector interactions, target identification for development of novel larvicides/insecticides/repellents, insecticide resistance mechanisms, genomics, population genetics, proteomics, vector/host interactions, vector immunology, genetic modification of vectors, biochemistry, and molecular biology.
The program encompasses a broad scope of arthropod vectors of disease and nuisance pests of humans, such as mosquitoes, ticks, triatomine bugs, sandflies, black flies, tsetse flies, lice, fleas, bedbugs, and mites, as well as snails vectors of schistosomiasis.
