Junior Rangers having fun!

The Zion Junior Ranger Explorer and Discovery programs are offered for kids ages 6 to 12 during the summer months. The activities are created and presented with a young person's level of learning and interest in mind. Both programs are free.


Educational Outreach Programs
Curriculum-based, in-class educational programs are available each spring and fall for 3rd to 5th grades. These outreach programs are offered to elementary schools in Washington County and other areas within a 50-mile radius of the park. more...

Junior Ranger Program
Zion offers a guided and self guided Junior Ranger experience. Self-guided activity booklets are on sale at both of the park's visitor centers and the Zion Human History Museum.

Hey kids! Become a Zion Junior Ranger and have fun while learning about Zion National Park and the natural world. Becoming a Junior ranger is a great way to explore your national parks while learning how you can help take care of them for the future.

Junior Ranger Explorer Program

What
Children will learn about Zion National Park and the natural world through hands-on activities, hikes, and lessons designed especially for them. Kids will earn a Junior Ranger Patch. Free.

Who
Kids ages 6 to 12 only. (Families can attend the 1:30 pm Junior Ranger Discovery Program - see below).

Where
The Zion Nature Center, located near South Campground. If you are entering Zion from the South Entrance, the Zion Nature Center is located on the second right hand turn. There is no shuttle service to the Nature Center.

When
Saturday, May 23, 2009 through Sunday, September 6, 2009. Daily at 9 am. Please arrive 15 minutes early to sign in.

Wear
Activities are outside, so dress comfortably and appropriately for outdoor activities. Please bring water. Hats and sunscreen are recommended on sunny days and rain gear if the weather looks stormy. Close-toed shoes preferred. No flip-flops.

This is a family-oriented program. Children will learn about Zion National Park and the natural world through hands-on activities, hikes, and lessons designed especially for them. Kids will earn a Junior ranger Badge. Free.

Self Guided Activities
Junior Ranger Activity Booklet:
Children ages 6 through 12 can earn a Junior Ranger Badge by completing an activity booklet during their visit. Booklets are on sale for one dollar at both visitor centers and the human history museum. Please allow for several hours to complete this booklet as activities include traveling throughout Zion Canyon in search of cool things to discover.

Junior Ranger Helper: Children under 6 years old can earn a Junior Ranger decal by completing an activity sheet during their visit. Activity sheets are free and available at both visitor centers and human history museum.
