WASHINGTON -- The U. S. General Services Administration (GSA) has released a single CD-ROM update containing both its Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance and the U.S. Bureau of the Census 1996 Federal Assistance Award Data System database.
The Census database, which is included at no additional cost, provides information on programs published in GSA's Catalog. Including the Census database on the CD-ROM makes it more convenient for researches to use. The CD-ROM comes with installation support. The cost has been reduced to $50 for a single issue and $85 for an annual subscription.
Through the CD's powerful, self-contained search engine, a researcher can search for suitable programs in the GSA's Catalog and then search the Census database to find successful, similar grantees of these programs in their geographic area. The Catalog is searchable by State, town, congressional district, catalog program number, and recipient. Entries include information on federal funds, other funds, and period and place of performance, and project description.
GSA's Catalog is compiled from 57 Federal departments and agencies, and includes information on 1,368 Federal programs. These programs include grants, loans, loan guarantees, scholarships, mortgage loans, insurance, and other forms of assistance, both financial and non-financial. The CD-ROM update includes all of the current Catalog programs and virtually all of the appendices and indices in the Catalog.
Catalog program information is available on GSA's Web site (http://www.gsa.gov/fdac). For additional details, contact Jerry Varner, (202) 708-5126.
