WASHINGTON, DC -- The US General Services Administration announced today the release of the fifth edition of its Environmental Products Guide (EPG), an updated listing of over 3,000 environmentally oriented items available from GSA's Federal Supply Service (FSS).

David J. Barram, GSA Administrator, said, "GSA's latest EPG is bigger and better than the previous editions. This is just one more way that we're doing our part to support the Clinton Administration's efforts to take care of our environment."

The EPG has been popular with Federal buyers and has evolved over the years to include all aspects of environmental concerns. For instance, the guide contains products which address pollution prevention, waste minimization and resource conservation issues. The products are available through GSA's Stock, Schedules, and Customer Supply Center Programs, as well as on-line through GSA Advantage!

A whole section of the EPG is devoted to a special cleaning and degreasing products initiative developed in partnership with industry and the Environmental Protection Agency in pursuit of "environmentally preferable" products, as defined in Executive Order 12873.

The EPG also contains many products that have recycled content or that are energy
conserving. Some of the more notable examples in the recycled content category are: copier paper, latex paint, and carpet, as well as remanufactured toner cartridges. In the energy arena, Federal agencies will be able to find energy efficient computers, printers, and copy machines, as well as household appliances. There also is information about how agencies can obtain alternative fuel vehicles and 'chillers' for cooling applications that are energy efficient and protect the stratospheric ozone layer.

The EPG is available to all authorized users of the GSA/FSS Supply System at no cost, along with the many other GSA/FSS publications. The EPG can also be found on the GSA/FSS
Home Page at http://www.fss.gsa.gov.
