WASHINGTON, DC -- The General Service Administration's Federal Computer Acquisition Center (FEDCAC) recently awarded the eighth task order under its Virtual Data Center Services Contract on behalf of the Small Business Administration (SBA) to Unisys Corporation of McLean, VA.

SBA plans to consolidate its current data processing services and its enterprise client server systems into a single computing environment. This task order, with a total value of $51.9 million, will provide migration, data processing, data processing services, and operational technical and management support for the SBA's Enterprise Information Center.

The Virtual Data Center Services Contract provides IBM-compatible, UNISYS, DEC, and HONEYWELL mainframe computing services and support to civilian and military Federal agencies, eligible state and local agencies, and eligible private concerns operating data centers dedicated to supporting Federal government agencies. The contract provides a full range of primary data processing and support services to subscribing agencies at its outsourcing centers. These services include all the essential components and resources to service and maintain data center computing, i.e., hardware and software services, system back up and disaster recovery services, operations and systems support, systems and application software support, migration support, and acceptance testing support.

In response to the OMB Bulletin 96-02, the Consolidation of Federal Data Centers, GSA awarded the Governmentwide Virtual Data Center Service contract to provide agencies with a quick, low-cost alternative for obtaining commercial information processing services. This task order award represents another significant milestone in GSA's efforts to outsource government data center services to the private sector in support of OMB Bulletin 96-02.
