National Building Museum Selects GSA for Prestigious Honor Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. General Services Administration became the first federal agency to ever receive the National Building Museum’s prestigious annual Honor Award during a black-tie gala celebration last night.  The award was given in recognition of GSA's success in creating and maintaining innovative workplaces for the federal community.

GSA is exceptionally proud to receive the National Building Museum Honor Award for 2004,” said Administrator Stephen A. Perry as he accepted the award on behalf of GSA before an audience of nearly 1,000 cultural, corporate, real estate industry, political, and other leaders. “Being selected as the first federal agency to ever receive this honor is a tremendous reward for all the good work that our associates have done in the past – and will serve as strong inspiration and motivation for our efforts in the future,” said Administrator Perry.

Through its Design and Construction Excellence programs, GSA engages outstanding private-sector architects, engineers and contractors to design and build award-winning courthouses, laboratories, border stations, and federal office buildings. These programs have resulted in extraordinary examples of public architecture, many of which have been recognized with prestigious awards from private organizations such as the American Institute of Architects.

The gala was held in the landmark Great Hall of the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.

For nearly 20 years, the National Building Museum's Honor Award has recognized outstanding individuals and companies who have made significant contributions in the fields of architecture, planning, construction, and building.  Previous recipients include the National Football League and Major League Baseball, Michael D. Eisner and The Walt Disney Company, the Rockefeller and Pritzker families, the IBM Corporation, U.S. Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, former National Gallery director J. Carter Brown, and Lady Bird Johnson, among others.
