Faces of Ryan White

Crafting a System of Care: Memphis built a foundation for an organized system of HIV/AIDS services in a little over a year, responding rapidly to the new funds they received under the Ryan White 2006 legislation''s Part A program that provides HIV/AIDS care funds for urban areas hit hardest by the epidemic. The network of HIV care covers counties in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi. A new council planned the area's first-ever needs assessment. Memphis tapped into the. Sources of TA available from HRSA/HAB, such as onsite training sessions for consumers to participate in planning, and consultants who helped create the structure for the planning group. A set of standards of care were also created.

The network received its Ryan White Part A funding under a designation called Transitional Grant Area or TGA, for areas reporting at least 1,000 but fewer than 2,000 new AIDS cases in the most recent 5 years.
