Research Project:
Mite Transmission of Wheat Streak Mosaic Virus Mutants
Location: Grain, Forage & Bioenergy Research
Project Number: 5440-22000-023-01
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 01, 2007
End Date: Aug 31, 2011
Objective:
Identify and characterize WSMV determinant(s) responsible for semipersistent transmission by the wheat curl mite.
Approach:
Aviruliferous mites will be allowed to feed on wheat infected with WSMV clones with mutations in coat protein, NIa, or HC-Pro genes. After a virus acquisition feeding period, mites will be transferred to test plants to determine the effects of mutations on mite transmission.
