FEDERAL COURT IN NEVADA BARS LAS VEGAS MAN
FROM PREPARING TAX RETURNS

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Justice Department today announced that Judge James C. Mahan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada has entered an order barring Las Vegas-resident Jeffrey Dean Hubacek from preparing federal income-tax returns for other persons.

According to the Justice Department's complaint filed in the case, the Internal Revenue Service estimates that Hubacek has prepared fraudulent returns understating customers' tax liabilities by a total of $400,000. The court order, a preliminary injunction, will remain in effect indefinitely.

"The Justice Department is taking strong action to stop tax scams at their source," said Eileen J. O'Connor, Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Department's Tax Division.
