What was new in April 2009
- April is Financial Literacy Month, a time to focus on smart money management. Executive Director Gregory Long’s letter talks about financial literacy and why the TSP should be a part of your personal financial plan. The April 2009 Highlights summarizes the features of the TSP that make it a compelling choice for your retirement savings.
What was new in March 2009
- Some of you participated in the 2008 TSP Participant Survey, conducted by the TSP, in conjunction with Watson Wyatt Worldwide, an independent consultancy. Your answers informed us about your opinions, needs, understanding and satisfaction with the Thrift Savings Plan. We were also able to gauge your reactions to some potential TSP enhancements that are under consideration. Click here for a brief survey summary. To view the entire document, click here.
- The TSP is now using 6/2008 versions of Forms TSP-9, Change in Address for Separated Participant, and TSP-15, Change in Name for Separated Participant, both of which are designed to be read by an optical scanner. These forms, which are to be used by both civilians and members of the uniformed services, replace Forms TSP-U-9 and TSP-U-15 and supersede all previous versions of Forms TSP-9 and TSP-15.
What was new in February 2009
- The TSP is conducting a Web-based survey as part of our effort to produce a new Lifecycle Funds Educational DVD that will be made available to our participants. The few minutes you take to respond to our brief survey will help us to better understand your preferences and your approach to retirement investing. Your input is extremely valuable to us as we strive to develop additional tools to help you achieve financial security.
- The TSP supports America Saves Week 2009 and Military Saves Week 2009, which begin on February 22 and continue through March 1. Both focus on encouraging individuals and families to reduce debt and increase personal savings. Executive Director Gregory Long’s letter discusses both programs and the TSP’s role in supporting them.
- Annual TSP participant statements — The TSP has begun mailing 2008 annual participant statements to all participants who did not opt out of receiving them. We anticipate that all of the statements will be mailed by the end of February, so check your mail box over the next few weeks. You can also now view your annual statement here on the Web site. Your annual statement summarizes the financial activity in your account during 2008 and provides other important information, such as your personal investment performance and beneficiary information. Check this statement carefully, and if you see any information that you believe is not correct, follow up to get it corrected. For more information, see Questions and Answers regarding the annual statements, and the leaflet "How to Read Your Annual Participant Statement," which is enclosed with the statement. The mailing also includes a letter from the Executive Director reviewing last year’s TSP activities and discussing upcoming events, a copy of the January/February 2009 Highlights, and a leaflet summarizing the results of the 2008 TSP survey. Participants who opted out of receiving the annual statement will receive only the enclosures mentioned above.
