Following an earthquake in November 2003, NOAA's Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami watch in Hawaii and Alaska. Data from three tsunameters showed the wave was not significant, and no warning was issued, thus saving Hawaii greater than $68 million in evacuation costs (Meinig et al. 2005).
