Memoranda for Correspondents (MFCs) were intended to be less formal in style and less important in content than regular news releases. Use of the MFC format was discontinued at the end of calendar year 1999.

MFCs were posted and filed separately through calendar year 1999. Beginning with calendar year 2000, news items that might have been issued as MFCs were instead prepared and filed as regular news releases.
