    Are you a caregiver?

    Do you help an older family member:

    • Pay bills
    • Do household chores such as:
      • Meal preparation
      • Laundry
      • Cleaning
    • With medication
    • Provide transportation
    • Shop or run errands for a loved one
    • With personal care such as:
      • Dressing
      • Toileting
      • Bathing
      • Feeding
    • Arrange and coordinate outside services

    If you said YES, to any of these you are probably a caregiver.

    About the National Family Caregiver Support Program

    The purpose of the program is to help families sustain their efforts to care for older relatives with chronic illness or disability in their homes. This program is available through the Commission and local Area Agencies on Aging and Disability.

    The NFCSP was authorized under the Older Americans Act Amendment of 2000. Funding is provided by the U.S. Administration on Aging.

    Program Eligibility

    • -Adult family members (age 18 years or older) or other adult informal caregivers providing care to individuals 60 years of age and older.

    • -Adult family members or other adult informal caregivers providing care to individuals any age with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.

    • -Grandparent and other relatives (not parents) 55 years of age and older providing care to children under the age of 18 years:

      • Lives with the child;
      • Is the primary caregiver of the child;
      • Has legal relationship to the child, such as legal custody or guardianship, or is raising the child informally

    • -Grandparents and other relatives (not parents) 55 years of age and older providing care to adults, age 18 to 59 years, with disabilities.

    What kind of help is available?

    1. Information about available services
    2. Assistance in gaining access to supportive services
    3. Individual Counseling, Support Groups, Caregiver Training
    4. Respite care for temporary relief, such as:
      • Personal care
      • Homemaker
      • Adult day care
      • In-home adult care
    5. Supplemental services, such as:
      • Home delivered meals
      • Medical equipment/supplies
      • Minor home modification
      • Personal Response System

    Availability of services may vary depending on service area.
