The student will understand the maternal and fetal consequences, methods and limitations of screening, and understand the management of Syphilis in Pregnancy .

Objectives

The objectives for this module are:

  • The student will understand the maternal and fetal consequences of Syphilis in Pregnancy

  • The student will understand the management options for Syphilis in Pregnancy

Case scenario

L.B. is a 26 y/o G3P2 at 18 weeks gestation who has a history of "VD" (venereal disease) four years ago. She was treated with "3 shots" at that time. Current new prenatal labs reveal a positive Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) with a titer of 1:4 and a positive fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption (FTA) .

How should she be managed now?
