Two continuing education institutes (CEIs) at this year's American Public Health Association (APHA, http://www.apha.org/) meeting in Washington, DC will provide training on information access and management, with opportunities for hands-on computer practice.

"Public Health Knowledge: Acquisition, Management and Generation" will be held on Saturday, November 6, from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Participants in this CEI will learn specific strategies for staying informed about developments in public health and principles of personal knowledge management. Participants will be introduced to principles of evidence-based practice and have opportunities for hands-on use of resources to find the best evidence available to support decisions. This CEI will also review resources for finding statistics and data sets as well as authoritative health education materials.

On Sunday, November 7, a CEI entitled "Health and the Environment: National Library of Medicine Information Resources for the Public Health Workforce" will be held from 8:00am to 6:00pm. This CEI will focus on resources from the National Library of Medicine that provide information related to environmental health and toxicology. This session will include opportunities for hands on practice with a number of resources, including TOXNET, Haz-Map, Tox Town, TOXMAP, and the Household Products database.

Both CEIs will be held in a computer lab with workstations provided by the National Library of Medicine.

The registration cost for each CEI is $175 until October 1, when the registration cost will increase to $200.
