President Bush has appointed David Dunn Acting Under Secretary of Education at the U.S. Department of Education. In this role, Dunn will oversee policies, programs and activities related to vocational and adult education, postsecondary education, college aid and the President's financial reforms for the Pell Grant program. Since January 2005, Dunn has served as Chief of Staff to U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings and will continue these responsibilities as well.

Prior to joining the U.S. Department of Education, Dunn served as Special Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy at the White House Domestic Policy Council, working on issues related to all areas of education policy from early childhood through higher education. Previously, Dunn was the Associate Executive Director of the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), where he was the association's chief lobbyist and expert on school finance and school accountability. Dunn also spent fifteen years in education and fiscal policy analysis for the State of Texas, serving as lead staff for an education policy center that developed the blueprint for Texas' School Accountability System in the early 1990's.

Dunn has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Baylor University and Master of Arts in Government from the University of Texas at Austin.
