The IHS RPMS Advantage

Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS) software applications are a robust and time-tested solution for cost-effective management of clinical, administrative, and patient encounter-related financial information. IHS is the only organization, private or public, that provides a fully-integrated health information management solution for only one customer: American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN). While many other health care systems, programs and organizations use RPMS because of its advanced capabilities, we listen and respond only to AI/AN needs and are committed to a successful partnership with our Tribal customers

We understand that you face challenges: you are trying to meet the clinical and financial needs of your health programs. Many of you are striving to blend commercial off-the-shelf applications with RPMS and juggling many other issues associated with Self-Governance – all at the same time.

Working in partnership with our Tribal customers, we too have challenges. The IHS Office of Information Technology (OIT) is financially structured as a cost recovery organization. When our Tribal customers choose RPMS, the funds we receive are used to recover our costs for obtaining human and IT resources, and all the funds go directly to the programs, services, functions, activities and products that we provide. Cost recovery should not be confused with profit. Although IT costs have risen significantly over the last 5 to 7 years, if you consider the IT capability available to you seven years ago, you will see that the benefits funded by those costs have risen even faster.

Sophisticated IT applications like electronic transactions have also enabled Tribal health care facilities to maximize the revenue they collect from private insurers and other governmental programs.

Our mandate and our practice is to use every compacted and contracted share that we receive to meet your health information needs.
