RRM Category: ANCILLARY SERVICES

RRM Module: Pharmacy

Overview:
The RRM Pharmacy staffing module estimates the requirements for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to distribute and manage the use of medications. The workload parameters that are the key variables in the staffing estimation are Average Daily Patient Load (ADPL) and Primary Care Provider Visits (PCPVs) and CHP encounters. The Pharmacy Department consists of inpatient and outpatient services.

Services Description:
The Pharmacy Department consists of inpatient and outpatient activities.

Staffing Criteria:
Inpatient:
Fixed Pharmacist staff of 1.00 FTE, plus 0.50 FTEs Pharmacist for every 14 ADPL above 14 ADPL.

1.00 Pharmacist (CHA/P) for every 20,000 CHP encounters.

0.50 FTEs Pharmacy Technician for every 14 ADPL above 14 ADPL.

Outpatient:
Fixed Pharmacist staff of 1.00 FTE for a facility with at least 4,400 PCPVs, plus 1.00 FTE Pharmacist for every 5,000 PCPVs above 4,400 PCPVs.

0.50 FTEs Pharmacy Technician for every 5,000 PCPVs above 5,000 PCPVs.

Note: A clerical staff pool of 0.3 FTE/10,000PCPVs will be formed for Pharmacy, Laboratory and Imaging.

Fixed Pharmacy Billing Specialist for every facility with 20,000 or more PCPVs.
