The National Building Museum
Impressive Italian Renaissance design, a central fountain and eight colossal Corinthian columns has made the Great Hall a sought-after spot for gala events, including many Presidential Inaugural Balls, from 1885 to the present day. Three adjoining courts that make up the Great Hall may be used individually or together, accommodating dinners and receptions for groups of 200 to 2,000. The Museum occupies one of Washington's most spectacular structures, designed in 1881 by civil engineer and U.S. Army General Montgomery C. Meigs and completed in 1887. Originally known as the Pension Bureau Building, it is widely recognized as a marvel of engineering.
