Designating ob-gyns as primary care physicians could affect how medical services are provided to elderly women
- Few studies have measured the degree to which ob-gyns already provide primary care and have focused mostly on surveys of women in their reproductive years. A study of elderly women reveals that most ob-gyns in Washington State provided very little nongynecologic care to elderly women.
Causes: low education and income among older women
- Low education and income are related to poor health, chronic illness, and depression among older women. See the A.H.R.Q. report on-line
Disabled women: rates of Pap smears, mammograms
- Disabled women are less likely to receive Pap smears and mammograms than other women. See the A.H.R.Q. report on-line.
Needed: Targeted interventions that address the maternal health needs of racial/ethnic minority women including access to care.
