William Vajda Named Chief Information Officer

U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings has named William Vajda as Chief Information Officer at the U.S. Department of Education.

"Getting accurate and comprehensive data in a timely manner is key to performing at our best," said Secretary Spellings. "Bill's years of service in the government and private sector have given him the knowledge and expertise to harness technology on behalf of student achievement."

In his new position, Vajda will lead the Department's information technology (IT) efforts and serve as an advisor to the Secretary and the Deputy and Under Secretaries on all related matters. He will oversee the effective and efficient design and operation of all major information resource processes for the Department.

Previously, Vajda held senior positions at the Department of Defense and Department of Treasury, in addition to the private sector. He is a graduate of the Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan.
