Success Stories

USAID assistance has contributed significantly to the Czech Republic’s remarkable transformation from a state-controlled economy and authoritarian regime to a market-oriented democracy. USAID began operations in the Czech Republic in 1990 and opened its office in Prague in 1991. The program focused on: 1) privatization, 2) support for private sector growth, 3) financial sector assistance, 4) municipal infrastructure finance, 5) democracy, and 6) quality of life.

As the assistance program ended, we also summarized some of our most notable achievements in our close-out publication “Partnership for Change”. The publication highlights several successful programs in various sectors.

You can find more detailed information on some of these specific assistance programs in the Assistance Projects section of this website. And the USAID-funded Development Experience Clearinghouse gives you access not only to over 100 reports regarding the Czech Republic , but also thousands of other reports and documents regarding USAID’s work throughout the world.
