NNSA Kansas City Plant

The GSA Heartland Region partnered with the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) in 2006 to assist with the real estate needs associated with the transformation of the NNSA's Kansas City Plant. Operated by Honeywell FM&T, the Kansas City Plant produces and assembles non-nuclear components for the nation's nuclear weapons. Transformation of the plant could save the government $100 million annually.

GSA is proceeding with plans to construct a new 1.5-million-square-foot industrial facility on the northwest corner of Missouri Highway 150 and Botts Road in Kansas City, Mo. This new facility will be built following sustainable design principles and support up to 2,500 workers.

Through a competitive bidding process, GSA has selected CenterPoint Zimmer, LLC to design and construct the new facility. CenterPoint Zimmer, LLC is an entity formed between CenterPoint Property Trust of Oak Brook, Ill. and Zimmer Real Estate Services of Kansas City, Mo. Other contractors included on the team are HNTB Architects of Kansas City, Mo.; SSOE, Inc. of Toldeo, Ohio; Pro2Serve of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; Johnson Controls of Lenexa, Kan.; and JE Dunn Construction of Kansas City, Mo.

Environmental Assessment

In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, GSA has issued a "Finding of No Significant Impact" following an Environmental Assessment of a proposed new facility for the NNSA's Kansas City Plant. Copies of the Environmental Assessment, Finding of No Significant Impact, and Mitigation Action Plan are available in GSA's NEPA Library.
