Central to USAID’s assistance programs in Africa are several initiatives to improve education, increase agricultural productivity, reduce government corruption, promote U.S. trade with Africa, promote the use of information technology, and protect the Congo Basin Forest.
- The Africa Education Initiative supports training of new teachers and provides more textbooks and scholarships for children throughout Africa.
- Through the African Global Competitiveness Initiative, USAID works to improve the trade and investment environment and promote the fuller integration of Africa into the global economy.
- The Anti-Corruption Initiative is designed to reduce corruption in sub-Saharan Africa and to lend specific support to recent efforts by African leaders to link good governance with sustainable development practices
- The Congo Basin Forest Partnership supports efforts to conserve the outstanding forest and wildlife resources of the Congo Basin Forest, the second largest remaining tropical forest in the world.
- The Initiative to End Hunger in Africa focuses on programs to improve the use of modern technology and increase agricultural productivity and income for small-scale farmers.
