Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site Commemorates 100 Years of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site will commemorate 100 years of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People on Saturday, February 28, 2009. Distinguished speakers will join park staff for a panel discussion –A Lasting Legacy: Maggie L. Walker and 100 Years of the NAACP - beginning at 1 p.m. in the park’s education building located at 112 E. Leigh Street. The program is free.

Maggie L. Walker NHS to Host "Lest We Forget":  A Civil Rights Film Event
The National Park Service will host a Civil Rights film day on Monday, January 19, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the park's visitor center located at 600 N. 2nd Street, in Richmond, Virginia.  The event will examine American history from the close of the Civil War to the modern Civil Rights Movement.

The National Park Service invites you to celebrate the holidays at Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site, in Historic Jackson Ward, on Saturday, December 6, 2008 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site Announces New Winter Hours
Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site will begin its winter hours of operation on December 1, 2008. The site will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through February 28, 2009. Beginning March 1, 2009, the site will return to summer operating hours, Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Did You Know?
In many states, when women married they could no longer teach school. Maggie Walker had to give up her teaching job when she married Armstead Walker in 1886.
