Regulations, Legal Opinions and Laws
The Federal
Credit Union Act (FCUA) is the source of authority for all federally chartered credit unions and governs
the coverage and terms of insured accounts at all federally insured credit
unions. The FCUA also determines the structure and duties of the National Credit
Union Administration.
NCUA issues regulations to interpret and enforce
the provisions of the FCUA. Visit our Regulations section to find a PDF version of this publication.
NCUA issues guidance to assist credit unions with the interpretation of regulations,
raise awareness of emerging issues and communicate
the agency's interpretation of legal issues. Visit
Legal Opinions, Letters to Credit Unions, Regulatory Alerts,
Accounting Bulletin and IRPS for more information.
Many consumer protection and financial protection laws are
enforced by NCUA and other federal agencies. Visit Laws and Enforcement Authorities for Credit Unions to view a list of these laws.
