Art in Architecture

Public Art

The Northwest/Arctic Region supports two national GSA programs to manage public art in federal facilities: the Art in Architecture Program and the Fine Arts Program.

The Art in Architecture Program commissions new artwork from living American artists for new federal facilities by working with a community-based panel to select an artist for each commission. The architect of record and the artist then work together to integrate the new artwork into the building as appropriate.

GSA maintains a slide registry for artists interested in being considered for Art in Architecture commissions. This registry is the principal resource for the review panels that assist GSA in selecting artists for each new project. Artists may send their requests for registration information to the following address:

The Fine Arts Program manages the existing collection of fine arts assets under the GSA’s stewardship to insure their accountability, accessibility, preservation and appropriate use to enhance and promote high quality work environments for federal agencies and the public they serve. The collection consists of over 17,000 paintings, sculpture, architectural or environmental works of art, and graphics dating from the 1850's.
