Intended GSA Public Buildings Service Commissioner

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) today announced that Stephen A. Perry, President Bush's nominee for Administrator, pending confirmation, intends to appoint F. Joseph Moravec as Public Buildings Service (PBS) Commissioner.

Mr. Moravec, 50, of Bethesda, Md., brings more than 25 years of experience as a practitioner and senior manager of commercial real estate enterprises to the job at GSA's largest division.

He is former Washington regional partner of Faison Associates of Charlotte, N.C.; past president of Barnes, Morris, Pardoe & Foster of Washington (now Insignia/ESG); former president--eastern division of Grubb & Ellis Co. of Chicago, Ill., and former partner of Leggat McCall Cos. of Boston and Washington. He spent the past three years as Senior Advisor for Business Development at The George Washington University.

"The Bush administration is fortunate to have Joe Moravec's experience, ability and commitment to run GSA's public buildings, which comprise the nation's largest, commercial-style, real estate portfolio," Perry said. "The service he will oversee will benefit enormously from his commercial real estate background." GSA operates and manages 1,800 government-owned buildings and 6,500 leased buildings.

Mr. Moravec looks forward to guiding the 7,400 GSA Public Buildings Service employees. The agency has a total of 14,000 employees in its 11 regional headquarters, spanning the nation from Honolulu to Boston.

"I am honored to have been asked to serve the Bush administration and the nation in this important capacity," Mr. Moravec said. "The Public Buildings Service is a great service organization, with diverse and comprehensive responsibilities. Our mission is to provide quality work environments for Federal employees, so they can better serve the American taxpayer. Our job is critical to the more than 1 million Federal employees housed in GSA space."

Moravec is a 1973 graduate of Harvard University. He has been active in leadership roles in a number of civic and professional associations. He was president of the Washington, D.C., Association of Realtors, a director of the D.C. Building Industry Association, and president of The Real Estate Group of Washington.
