McBurney to Lead GSA's Office of Congressional Affairs

WASHINGTON, DC - Stephen A. Perry, administrator of the U.S. General Services Administration today announced the appointment of Shawn McBurney as GSA's Associate Administrator of Congressional Affairs. Mr. McBurney is the former Director of Government Relations with Citizens Against Government Waste, a taxpayer watchdog group. His new position is effective September 17, 2001.

"We are truly fortunate to have the opportunity to appoint a man like Shawn, who has extensive expertise in legislative and other governmental activity, to this post," Mr. Perry said. "His background makes him the ideal choice to lead GSA's Congressional Affairs office."

Mr. McBurney served for six years working as the Special Assistant and senior adviser to U.S. Representative Ed Royce where he had responsibility for the development and implementation of legislative initiatives and strategies.

"I am truly honored and privileged by this appointment to serve Administrator Perry and President Bush. I look forward to working with the GSA team and Congress in implementing GSA's goal of providing competitively-priced, high-quality products and services to the government for the 21st century," Mr. McBurney said.

As the Associate Administrator of Congressional Affairs working in GSA's Central Office, Mr. McBurney will monitor important legislation affecting GSA's functions and areas of responsibility of interest. Mr. McBurney will also advise the Administrator and Deputy Administrator on policy actions and act as congressional liaison for GSA on legislative items, investigations, and inquiries.

Mr. McBurney earned an undergraduate degree in political science from University of California, Los Angeles in 1987. He currently resides in Fairfax, Va., with his family.
