GSA Administrator Appoints Fielder to Head Southeast Sunbelt Region

ATLANTA - At a special ceremony this morning, Edwin E. Fielder Jr. was sworn-in by Administrator Stephen A. Perry of the U.S. General Services Administration as the GSA's Regional Administrator for the agency's Southeast Sunbelt Region.

"We are fortunate to have the opportunity to appoint Ed to this post," said Mr. Perry. "He is a very capable professional and it is his commitment, ability and experience which show him to be the ideal choice for Regional Administrator in GSA's Southeast Sunbelt Region."

In his role as principal executive for the region, Mr. Fielder will head a GSA workforce of 1,146 associates across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. GSA's Southeast Sunbelt Region has an annual operating budget estimated at over $550 million and a real estate portfolio that includes 162 government-owned buildings and leased space in 1,139 commercial buildings.

Most recently, Mr. Fielder was employed by CB Richard Ellis, Inc. where he managed a diverse facility management portfolio for Delta Air Lines. Prior to 2000, Mr. Fielder was a Director of Property Management for Carter and Associates and a General Manager for COMPASS Management and Leasing, Inc. In 1997, he retired from active duty as a Lieutenant Colonel with the U.S. Marine Corps.

"I consider it an honor that the GSA and the Administration have selected me for the position of Regional Administrator here in the Southeast. I am very excited with the challenge of going to GSA and working with Mr. Perry and the Administration to help them achieve the goals of the agency, " Mr. Fielder said. "I am eager to get to know the folks in the region and to get started. I know my logistics and real estate services backgrounds and familiarity with the regional business community will prove valuable in this assignment."

Mr. Fielder graduated with a bachelor's degree in Building Construction from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta in 1977, later earning an MBA in Management from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, California, in 1983. Additionally, Mr. Fielder is a 1994 graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, Virginia. In 2001, he qualified as a Facility Management Administrator and a Real Property Administrator after completing coursework at the Building Owners and Managers Institute in Arnold, Maryland.

Originally from Rhode Island, Mr. Fielder currently resides in Marietta, Georgia, with his wife, Cindy. They have two daughters, Aubrey and Arianne. Mr. Fielder and his family are members of Northwest Community Church.
