GSA Co-Sponsors Telework Conference

KANSAS CITY, MO. -- The General Services Administration (GSA) is a cosponsor of the 2001 Working Ahead of the Curve: Telework! conference, to be presented here Sept. 23-25 by the International Telework Association & Council (ITAC), in conjunction with the International Facility Management Association's World Workplace conference.

During the conference at the Kansas City Convention Center, GSA will sponsor and host a Federal Telework Issues Roundtables session -- for Federal agency representatives only. The session will focus on assessing the performance of remote workers, telework tools, IT issues and Federal agency case studies to help implement, refine, and expand Federal telework programs. As a long-time proponent of teleworking, GSA supports the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) lead role to implement to the October 2000 law.

"The October 2000 law requires each Federal agency to establish a policy under which eligible employees of the agency may participate in telework to the maximum extent possible without diminished employee performance," said David Bibb, GSA's Deputy Associate Administrator for Real Property. "The law requires that this policy be applied to 25 percent of the Federal workforce each year until 100 percent of the eligible workforce is offered the opportunity to telework."

Recently, GSA and OPM developed a one-stop telework website at http://www.telework.gov. In the last year, Federal employee use of GSA's 15 telework centers in the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area has increased by 11 percent.
