Acting Administrator David J. Barram of the U. S. General Services Administration (GSA) today invited entries from qualified individuals or firms for the agency's 1996 Design Awards Program.

Barram said, "The Design Awards help us to measure the success of our efforts to provide quality facilities for the federal workforce and give us an opportunity to recognize the individuals whose creative genius and steadfast commitment to excellence have helped us fulfill this mission."

The biennial competition will accept entries for the design of new federal facilities, historic preservation and restoration projects, interiors, renovations, alterations, craft, art, landscaping, graphics, engineering, technology and innovation, energy conservation, design management, and "on-the-boards" projects.

Entries must be projects which have been developed for GSA between January 1, 1991 and July 1, 1996. Submissions are due by November 8, 1996. The 1996 GSA Design Awards Jury will be chaired by internationally acclaimed architect Cesar Pelli. Awards will be presented at a March 20 ceremony in Washington, DC.

The Design Awards Program is administered by GSA's Public Buildings Service. For additional information, contact Marilyn Farley at (202) 501-1888.
