New GSA Catalog Offers Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Getting Money and Help from the Government, But Didn't Know Whom to Ask

WASHINGTON, DC -- Are you looking for federal grants or loans for flood control, food and nutrition programs, education and training, or small business development? Or how about help for community development programs, child care, or mental health research? These are just a few of the federal assistance programs described in the brand new edition of the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance published by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA).

The 1997 catalog contains information on 1,327 domestic assistance programs sponsored by 57 federal departments and agencies. These programs include grants, loans, loan guarantees, scholarships, mortgage loans, insurance, and other forms of assistance, both financial and non-financial.

The catalog is built to make finding this information easy. Its four indexes - by agency, function, subject and applicant eligibility - will help you quickly locate potential federal assistance for your specific need. For each program listed, the catalog gives:

� program objectives and goals,
� types of assistance offered,
� eligibility requirements,
� examples of funded projects,
� criteria for selecting proposals,
� phone contacts for applicants and information, and
� related programs.

The catalog is available to the public for $69 a copy on a subscription basis from the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C. 20402. A limited number of copies are distributed to federal, state, and local government offices, Congressional offices and federal depository libraries. The catalog is issued each June and updated in December.

Catalog contents and accompanying documents are available from GSA on high density floppy diskettes ($50); CD-ROM ($60 for a single copy or $100 for the complete June and December editions), or machine-readable magnetic tape ($100). The hard copy and CD-ROM versions contain grant-writing tutorials.
