Washington, DC - The U.S. General Services Administration's Federal Telecommunications Service (FTS) made initial awards for the Technical and Management Support Services Contracts (TMS) to six companies on September 12, 1997. Additional awards may be forthcoming. The TMS program has an estimated value of up to $3 billion, and is a non-mandatory, multiple vendor contract for two-years with three one-year options.

"The TMS contracts will provide cost effective, high quality telecommunications support services to federal agencies and other authorized users on a worldwide basis," said FTS commissioner Robert Woods. "TMS represents a true best value acquisition with emphasis on past performance and technical capability. We believe agencies using these contracts will realize substantial time and cost savings."

The initial contracts were awarded to: Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) of Falls Church, VA.; Booz, Allen & Hamilton, Inc. of McLean, VA; Unisys Corporation of McLean, VA; Boeing Information Services, Inc. of Vienna, VA; DynCorp Information & Engineering Technology, Inc. of Fairfax, VA; and BDM International, Inc. of McLean, VA.

Woods said that these awards will provide the ability for customers to address their support services needs in a cost effective manner. He said, "This new suite of contracts will give the customers a choice of contractors who will provide the best solution for each customer's needs." TMS also allows customers to begin filling their telecommunications support services needs immediately.

The TMS contracts will also allow customers to get support services for transition to the FTS2001 contract when awarded. In addition, customers will be able to acquire engineering and analytical support, operations and maintenance support, testing and evaluation support and program management support as needed.
