The U.S. General Services Administration's Federal Telecommunications Service (FTS) has released a Request for Proposals for a Governmentwide acquisition of a Wire and Cable Services (WACS) contract.

This multiple award acquisition will provide a single comprehensive source for the design, engineering, provisioning, installation and removal of inside and outside telecommunications plant and equipment. Capabilities for additional, broad based engineering support and logistics support services to support telecommunications infrastructure modernization projects are also provided under this solicitation. Substantial savings should be realized with these contracts as they will provide one source for a wide variety of infrastructure requirements and feature commercially available, off-the-shelf equipment.

This acquisition was initiated by the Interagency Management Council for Federal Telecommunications and the Wire and Cable Working Group as an outgrowth of the Post FTS2000 Strategy.

WACS is a non-mandatory contract that is anticipated for award in late 1997. It will carry a maximum contractual value for all awards of $2.6 billion and a base award period of 3 years with two 1 year renewal options. Ordering and billing will be accomplished through direct interface with the vendors. The contract will encompass the contiguous United States of America, including Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U. S. Virgin Islands.

The RFP (Solicitation: TQD-JA-97-0001) is available via Internet at http://post.fts2k.gsa.gov. For additional information, contact Joseph Romanelli, Project Manager, at (703) 610-1649, or Jonathan Allen, Contracting Officer, at (703) 610-2830.
