GSA Technology Leader Whitley Promoted to SES

Washington, D.C. -- Mary G. R. Whitley, a Federal Technology Service leader, has been selected for a newly created position as Assistant Commissioner for Sales in a coveted appointment within the federal government's Senior Executive Service. The U.S. General Services Administration announced the promotion of Whitley, who will manage customer sales for FTS in her new role.

A 24-year veteran of federal service, for the last three years, Whitley has been deputy assistant commissioner for the Office of Information Technology Integration within GSA's Federal Technology Service office in Falls Church, Va. With the help of her leadership, ITI has experienced explosive growth, providing more than $3 billion annually in contract technical service to federal agencies across the globe. She has overseen acquisition, integration, development and management of information systems and technology.

Whitley's standout leadership has been proven since earning a place in the first class of women to graduate from the U.S. Military Academy in 1980 and her commission as a U.S. Army officer on active duty for 11 years. Additionally, she was graduated from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government Program for Senior Executive Fellows. At the University of Southern California, she earned a master's degree in systems management.

Her technical know-how is an outstanding example of a new breed of government excellence and diversity. "She has the unique set of skills and experience to help drive FTS to major growth in business and provide world class support for our federal customers. I am delighted," said FTS Commissioner Dennis Fischer.

Whitley will be responsible for building positive partnerships with customer agencies, increasing customer retention and growth and constructing an even more effective sales force. As assistant commissioner for sales, she will execute comprehensive management for all customer sales plans and transactions.

"Mary has a thorough understanding of federal technology goals, strategies and service delivery and will do a terrific job representing the organization and its products and services to federal clients," said Charles Self, ITI Assistant Commissioner.

Whitley's appointment becomes effective immediately. The Senior Executive Service is a select corps of some 7,000 women and men based on their leadership capabilities and well-honed executive skills. A review board of the Office of Personnel Management selects members.
