Johnson to Head Service Development at FTS

WASHINGTON, DC -- John Johnson has been selected as the new assistant commissioner for Service Development at General Service Administration's Federal Technology Service. Johnson replaces Bruce Brignull, who retired in July.

In this assignment Johnson will be responsible for providing project management and technical expertise on telecommunications acquisitions, defining end-to-end telecommunication service solutions to satisfy current and future business requirements of the government, implementing plans to acquire services, and ensuring that all aspects of services remain cost effective and technically sound. Recent acquisitions under this office include the development through award of the FTS2001 and Metropolitan Area Acquisitions (MAA) contracts.

Johnson comes to GSA after holding several key positions within the Department of Defense(DoD). In 1994, he co-led the strategy analysis team that identified DoD's Defense Information System Network (DISN). He subsequently served as deputy program manager for DISN until he was selected for a position in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence. While in OASD, he was responsible for DoD's telecommunications policy and oversight. He also served as the principal representative on the FTS 2000/2001 Inter-agency Management Council. In October 1998, Johnson was identified as DoD's transition manager for FTS2001.

Johnson has a Bachelors degree in Applied Behavioral Science and a Master of Science degree in National Resource Strategy. He is a graduate of the Army's Signal Officer Advanced Course, the Armed Forces Staff College, the Federal Executive Institute, and the National Defense University. He is also a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps and is a graduate of DoD's Senior Acquisition School.
