Administrator David J. Barram of the U. S. General Services Administration (GSA) invites entries from qualified individuals and firms for the agency's 2000 Design Awards.

"The design awards are a barometer for measuring the success of our efforts to provide high-quality work environments for the Federal workforce, and at the same time create inspiring civic places that enhance the vitality of our communities across the nation," Barram said.

The biennial competition will accept entries for architecture, historic preservation and restoration, interiors and workplace environments, craft, art, landscape architecture and urban planning, engineering, technology and innovation, energy conservation, graphics, First Impressions, and projects "on the boards."

Entries must be projects developed between Jan. 1, 1995, and July 1, 2000. Call for entries will be mailed out Sept. 1. Submissions are due Nov. 1. The GSA Design Awards Jury will be chaired by internationally acclaimed architect Charles Gwathmey. The awards will be presented at a March 29, 2001, ceremony in Washington, D.C.

The Design Awards Program is administered by GSA's Public Buildings Service, Office of the Chief Architect. For additional information on submissions, please contact Thomas Grooms at (202) 501-1888.
