Deidre Lee Named FAS Assistant Commissioner

Washington, DC – U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Acting Commissioner of the Federal Acquisition Service (FAS) Barbara L. Shelton today announced the appointment of Deidre A. Lee as the FAS Assistant Commissioner for Integrated Technology Services.  Ms. Lee with assume her new position on August 8th.

In her new role, Ms. Lee will have responsibility for FAS technology and professional services offerings to customer agencies, the acquisition workforce, and the development and delivery of major technology and telecommunications initiatives such as Networx and Alliant.

GSA Administrator Stephen A. Perry said, “We are extremely fortunate to have Dee Lee joining our senior management team at GSA.  She is a distinguished leader in the Federal acquisition community and she brings a wealth of experience and expertise that will be very beneficial to our ongoing efforts to achieve excellence in acquisition services at GSA.”

Ms. Lee is currently the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD) Director of Defense Procurement and Acquisition Policy, where she serves as principal advisor to the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology & Logistics (AT&L) and on the Defense Acquisition Board for all major weapon systems programs, major automated information systems programs, and services acquisitions.  She has worked in partnership with GSA on a wide variety of acquisition matters including leading DoD’s cooperative effort with GSA in the “Get it Right” campaign to achieve excellence in Federal acquisition.  She was responsible for the acquisition workforce career development and training as well as AT&L's external electronic business efforts. She also acted as DoD's advisor for competition, source selection, and multiyear contracting.

“The timing of Dee’s arrival could not be more perfect,” said Acting FAS Commissioner Shelton. “This will enable her to be integrally involved in helping to complete the organization design and implementation of the recently announced plan to consolidate our Federal Technology Service and Federal Supply Service into a single organization.  I know Dee shares GSA’s strong commitment to achieving best value for Federal agencies and American taxpayers through consistent application of best practices in full compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulations and policies.”

Ms. Lee began her career at DoD in 2000 as Director of Defense Procurement and prior to this served as the Administrator for the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) Office of Federal Procurement Policy from July 1998 to June 2000.  She also served as Associate Administrator for Procurement at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Ms. Lee holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Central State University in Oklahoma and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma.
