FSS Commissioner Donna Bennett to Retire

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. General Services Administration’s (GSA) Federal Supply Service (FSS) Commissioner, Donna Bennett, will be retiring July 3, 2005, after 35 years of government service. 

Ms. Bennett has served as FSS Commissioner for five years. She first joined GSA 21 years ago as Director of the FSS Governmentwide Travel/Transportation program and has served in FSS for the entire tenure of her GSA career. Other key career milestones included initiating the GSA SmartPay® program and serving as the first FSS Director for the Services Acquisition Center. Ms. Bennett began her federal career at the Civil Aeronautics Board in 1969. 

“Donna has been key to GSA’s efforts to be a high performing, continuously improving organization and to achieve excellence in federal acquisition and customer satisfaction,” stated GSA Administrator Stephen A. Perry. “We will certainly miss her counsel and leadership and we wish her all the best in her retirement.”

“I am very pleased to have had this recent opportunity to work on the organizational design for the consolidation of FSS and FTS,” stated Ms. Bennett. “Now that it is launched, my departure will coincide with the official beginning of the consolidation of FSS and FTS into the new Federal Acquisition Service.”  She added, “While many of the key details remain to be worked out, I know FSS associates will carry into the new organization their positive attitudes, ‘can-do’ work ethic, and the strong sense of teamwork that has gotten us to where we are today.” 

She is looking forward to spending more time with her family and hiking, cycling, and gardening with her husband.
