Costa Named Acting Commissioner of Public Buildings

WASHINGTON – James A. Williams, Acting Administrator of the U.S. General Services Administration, today announced the appointment of Anthony E. Costa as Acting Commissioner of GSA’s Public Buildings Service (PBS).

Costa’s appointment became effective December 27.  He succeeds David Winstead, who served as Commissioner since October 2005. 

“As PBS’s highest ranking career civil servant, Tony brings extensive experience to the job,” Williams said. “He is well regarded by the entire real estate community, including GSA’s federal customer agencies, and colleagues on Capital Hill and the Administration.  I look forward to working with him in this new role.” 

Costa began his GSA career as a Presidential Management Intern and has more than 20 years experience with the agency in positions that include PBS Chief of Staff and Assistant Regional Administrator for GSA’s National Capital Region, where he was responsible for the daily operation of over 86 million square feet of space in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area.  In September 2004, he returned to GSA Headquarters to assume the position of PBS Deputy Commissioner.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bucknell University and a Masters of Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He has received several honors for outstanding performance, including the Walter Washington District Champion Award presented by Leadership Greater Washington in 2008.
