Anthony Hunter (Shinnecock) is the health director at the American Indian Community House (AICH) in New York City. He has held this position since 1992. Prior to 1992, Mr. Hunter worked as a Certified Psychiatric and Mental Health Registered Nurse. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Mr. Hunter has served with AICH in various capacities since 1979, and was a member of the organization's Board of Directors from 1982 until 1992. As a member of both Indian Health Service Nashville Area and national steering and ad-hoc committees, he has served for many years as an active advocate for members of Tribal and Indian Nations who live in urban areas. He has also represented urban Indian communities as a member of the Board of the former American Indian Health Care Association, and currently serves as a Board member for the National Council of Urban Indian Health, the advocacy and support organization for Urban Indian Health Programs. He participated in the development of terms and conditions for New York State's Mandatory Managed Care 1115 Waiver as a member of the statewide First Nations Health Committee, and was recently appointed by the Commissioner of the New York State Office of Mental Health to serve on it's Multi-Cultural Advisory Committee. Mr. Hunter looks forward to continuing his work with Federal and State representatives as an advocate for the Indian population of the New York City metropolitan area.
