In 2002, AMIDEAST chose Morocco as the site for the organization’s 50th anniversary conference on “Higher Education in the Arab World: Preparing for the Global Marketplace.” The location was highly appropriate. By expanding educational opportunities for Moroccan students and facilitating increased academic exchange with the United States, AMIDEAST’s office in Rabat has come to play a vital role in fulfilling the organization’s mission.

AMIDEAST has offered advising services in Morocco since 1979. Our Educational Information Centers are stocked with pamphlets and other literature from U.S. and regional universities. The centers are equipped with computers, which students use to browse the internet for information about educational opportunities. Academic advisers are on-hand to provide information about study opportunities in the United States.

AMIDEAST Morocco administers most of the major standardized exams required for study at U.S. universities. These include the TOEFL®, GRE® and SAT®. We also offer test prep courses and English language courses. Our workshops for Moroccan professionals equip participants with the skills needed to succeed in today’s increasingly global economy.

AMIDEAST also organizes educational exchange programs for American students and others interested in visiting Morocco and learning about its rich cultural, historical and archeological legacy. For short-term visitors we offer study tours, providing a far more in-depth understanding of the country than one could gain from an ordinary tourist trip to Morocco.

Throughout its decades of service in Morocco, AMIDEAST has contributed to the development of key aspects of the country's educational system. In the 1980s, we helped the Moroccan government launch a pilot project to integrate women into the workforce. In the 1990s, our project actively focused on improving teaching in rural schools and encouraging girls to stay in school.
