Description:

Objective:

To investigate the histopathologic responses of fish and shellfishes to contaminants in field and laboratory studies.

Expected Results:

Literature investigations of development, interactions between various stressors and development of sensitivity and/or resistance will continue. In limited and highly focused experimental studies, investigators will investigate use of fluorescent probes in the newly developed see-through medaka. Virtual sectioning and molecular imaging will be used to define responses in embryos and will be followed by additional insults to elicit information on naïve and on previously stressed "responder" fish. In this way we hope to develop more realistic appreciation of multiple stressor effects.
